Intermountain Health Riverton Hospital is partnering with Riverton City in Utah to enhance healing in the community through art.
The city and the hospital are joining forces for an art exhibit that is on display at Intermountain Riverton Hospital and Riverton City Hall that is titled “The Art of Care and Community,” which features original artwork from Riverton City residents that is focused on the healing power of art. The partnership highlights the intersection of health and local culture.
The art exhibit showcases a diverse collection of works from local artists, including past traveling displays from students, teachers, and cancer survivors. By mirroring the displays found in Riverton’s historic Old Dome Meeting Hall, this partnership brings the city’s rich cultural spirit directly into a space dedicated to wellness at Intermountain Riverton Hospital.
To celebrate this partnership and the healing power of creativity, a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony that will be held at Intermountain Riverton Hospital on Tuesday at 10 am, featuring Riverton City Mayor Tish Buroker, representatives from the South Valley Chamber, and caregivers and leaders from Intermountain Riverton Hospital.
“The Art of Care and Community” exhibit is a pillar of Riverton City’s broader initiatives, primarily driven by the Riverton Arts Council (RAC). The program fosters resident well-being through theater, workshops, and exhibitions that emphasize holistic health and connection.
One of those submitting artwork for the display, is Intermountain Riverton Hospital caregiver, Laura Klarman, who is a cancer survivor.
Klarman, a marketing and communications manager at the hospital, is a survivor of skin cancer and an advocate for early detection and cancer prevention.
“This exhibition celebrates the resilience, strength, and healing power of art in the face of adversity. Whether you’re a cancer patient, survivor of serious illness, or recovering from accidents or injuries, your creativity can be a source of healing, expression, and artwork that reflects personal struggles, healing, and triumph,” said Klarman, “Artists of all levels – including patients, survivors, caregivers, and those who use art for recovery—were encouraged to submit works in painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, sculpture, and other visual art forms.”
